Bjartur Týr Ólafsson
IFMGA Mountain Guide

My story
Hello and welcome.
My name is Bjartur and I am from from Vestmannaeyjar islands off the south coast of Iceland. I was born and raised climbing on the sea cliffs of Vestmannaeyjar where I quickly grew passion for the outdoors.
At the age of 18 I went on my first trip to the alps and climbed Mont Blanc with a few of my friends and from there his love for mountaineering really took of. A dream of becoming a mountain guide was created.
I later got a job as a glacier guide in Iceland and I have worked in the mountains ever since.
Time flew on and around 2021 I started the IFMGA mountain guiding program with the Swedish Mountain Guides Association and later graduated in spring of 2025.
Becoming an IFMGA mountain guide is the culmination of years of rigorous training and dedication. It covers rock climbing, ice climbing, ski touring, alpine climbing, rescue techniques, and guiding skills.
This international certification represents the highest standard in mountain guiding, ensuring safety, expertise, and professionalism in every adventure I lead.
My passion is sharing the mountains with others, whether it’s guiding a ski descent, a classic alpine ridge, or a rock climbing trip. I focus on creating safe, unforgettable experiences while helping clients develop skills, confidence, and a deeper appreciation for the mountains.
Beyond guiding, I spend my time exploring new routes, staying up-to-date with mountain safety techniques, and photographing the incredible alpine landscapes that inspire every trip I lead.
