With a comfortable three-day itinerary, this climb offers the perfect introduction to high-altitude mountaineering — combining glacier travel, Italian hospitality, and one of the most iconic summits in the Alps.

Overview

The Gran Paradiso (4,061 m) rises in the heart of the Gran Paradiso National Park, one of the most pristine mountain areas in the Alps.
This three-day climb combines steady glacier travel, comfortable hut stays, and moderate altitude to create a rewarding and authentic alpine experience. The route we run follows a classic and relaxed rhythm — ideal for first-time 4000 m climbers or those seeking a measured, enjoyable summit push.

 

Ability Level

  • Suitable for fit beginners and intermediate mountaineers.

  • Basic hiking or climbing experience helpful but not required.

  • Good general fitness needed for 6–8 hours of activity per day.

  • Instruction on glacier travel and crampon use included.

 

Meeting Point

  • Valsavarenche (Italy), Chamonix or Aosta.

  • Meeting time and place confirmed before departure, depending on weather and hut logistics.

 

Typical Itinerary 

Day 1 – Arrival at Rifugio Vittorio Emanuele II (2,732 m)

Meet in Valsavarenche, check gear, and make the short approach to Rifugio Vittorio Emanuele II. Evening equipment briefing, weather check, and hut overnight.

Day 2 – Summit Day & Descent to Rifugio Chabod (2,710 m)

Early alpine start for the ascent to Gran Paradiso (4,061 m). After reaching the summit and enjoying the views, descend off the mountain toward Rifugio Chabod, where you’ll spend the night and recover from the day’s effort.

Day 3 – Walk Out to the Valley

Morning walk out from Rifugio Chabod to the valley (a few hours of descent/hike), completing the classic three-day loop and returning to the meeting point.

Total elevation gain: ~1,300 m
Total time: 8–10 hours on summit day (from hut), plus approach and walk-out times on Days 1 & 3.

    • Grade: F+ (PD-)

    • 2-day option still available for fit, acclimatized climbers

 

Ratio

  • Up to 4 clients per guide (4:1) on the glacier route.

  • For mixed-experience groups or early-season conditions, smaller ratios can be arranged.

 

Price

  • From €1125 per person for a 3 day program.

  • 2-day option available.

  • Prices include guiding and group glacier gear.

  • Huts, meals, and transport not included.

 

Included

  • IFMGA-certified mountain guide for all days.

  • Group glacier and safety gear (ropes, carabiners, technical equipment).

  • Instruction on movement, glacier safety, and crampon technique.

 

Not Included

  • Personal mountaineering gear (boots, crampons, harness, ice axe).

  • Huts, meals, and drinks.

  • Transport and lift tickets (if applicable).

  • Personal insurance.

 

Good to Know

The 3-day program offers ideal acclimatization and a relaxed pace: starting at Vittorio Emanuele, summiting on Day 2, and descending to Chabod for a comfortable final night before walking out. This itinerary prioritizes safety, enjoyment, and time to practice glacier skills while enjoying Italian hut culture.
Gran Paradiso is also an excellent training climb before Mont Blanc, the Spaghetti Tour, or other high alpine objectives.
